Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good morning,
It is a pleasure for me to attend the occasion of the 17th Joint Economic Cooperation Conference between Indonesia and Taiwan hosted by CIECA.

This annual conference held in Indonesia and Taiwan respectively has a significant role in developing our mutual economic ties.

I would like to take this opportunityto wish you Happy Lunar New Year.

Gong Xi Fa Chai. More than a decade at least until mid of 2010, the intensity of the visit of Indonesian high-ranked government officers to Taiwan was relatively low, if not any.

Fortunately, however, the situation has gradually shown a sign of improvement ever since, particularly from last June 2010 which has been indicatedby the visit of several high-ranked Indonesian government officers to Taiwan, namely: the Minister of Marine and Fisheries in July 2010, Minister
of Manpower and Transmigration in January 2011, Chairman of Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board in September 2010 and Chairman of Indonesian Institute of Sciences in January 2011. Aside from this, our office has also signed two Memorandums of Understanding in the labor protection
and sister city between Yang-Mei and Singkawang. From the Taiwan side, in late September 2010, the Minister of Economic Affairs led around a hundred of Taiwanese entrepreneurs to Jakarta and had met with a number of Ministers of the Republic of Indonesia.

The situation above gives us a picture that the relationship between Indonesia and Taiwan particularly in investment and trade has improved much better. In such circumstances, this conference that is organized by CIECA and KAKOTA can be seen as an essential media to further boost bilateral
relationship.

On this occasion, I would like to briefly inform you the progress of our bilateral relationship; the total trade value between Indonesia and Taiwan up to November 2010 has reached US$ 9,6 billion, an increase of 25.58% compared to the same period in 2009.

In investment sector, Taiwan has always been one of the main source of FDI sources in Indonesia. As per Decemebr 2009, there are about 189 investment projects from Taiwan in Indonesia, and because of those investments, Taiwan has become the 10th largest investor in Indonesia. Most of the investments comprise of such sectors as paper & printing industry; metal, machinery &electronic industry; non-metal mining industry; leather good & footwear industry; as well as transportation & vehicle industry.

Meanwhile in tourism sector, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Indonesia has increased considerably. More than one hundred and seventy nine thousand Taiwanese visited Indonesia last year. Currently, China Airlines and EVA Air are providing approximately fifty direct flights per
week from Taiwan to three destinations in Indonesia, namely: Jakarta, Bali and Surabaya. In the future, Garuda Indonesia Airways and Batavia Air are set to provide flights from Indonesia to Taiwan.
I am pleased that the economic tie between Indonesia and Taiwan is currently in a flourishing moment. Thus, this conference will become such an important median to further increase future bilateral partnership. I believe, by growing relationship between Indonesia and Taiwan, both of us would be able to share mutual benefits in the years to come.

Before concluding, I would like to once again express my sincere appreciation for your presence in today’s conference. I hope we can altogether enhance the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Taiwan through the experience sharing and view exchange today. Our office is always open for your enquiries and will strive all out to support any possible economic collaboration.
